Do you remember that old big machine that used to play your video tapes for a few times and then chew it up? Yeah, that’s right, I’m talking about VHS (or VCR). I think that I have one or two at my parents home, but I’m also sure that my home theater won’t have them :)
In fact – it would be cool to take one of those VHS players and transform it into toaster! Impossible? Stupid? No!
A little more pixel art here, but in some different way. This time we’re featuring Rubik’s Cube as an design element. The only thing that is inconvenient for this type of art is that you should be known as Rubik’s Cube Master.
Why? Because not only that you’ll need completely solved cubes, but you’ll need for some of them to be in an exact form.
Although, if you’re not a Rubik’s Cube junkie, you could just reorder the colored blocks on your own :)
Check out this site for even more Rubik’s Cube pixel art.
I would personally like to try out this, but unfortunately, I don’t have so many books, nor do I have a shelf. But when that time comes, and I’ll have my own book shelf, I’m pretty sure that I’ll try to make something out of this.
You can download the template in PDF form, which has those little boxes that need to be filled with a color. Involve your creativity here, there is no need to make everything black, experiment with colors :)
“Heftalica” is Serbian term for that office gadget that you might have somewhere on your table or in your drawers – staple gun. This is an online version of it, for everyone who is bored in life. It’s actually an Flash game of a kind, you have a stapler, a paper, and unlimited amount of “ammo”.
What I really like the most with this is the background story. Long story short – the idea for this came in the middle of exams, when you want to do ANYTHING except learning :)
The guys bought a domain name, filled out a paper with staples, scanned that and got the ammo in a digital form. They also took a picture of a stapler gun, added some Flash and ActionScript and – voila! – Heftalica.com was born.
You know all that alarm clocks that start to run around your room, or they explode so you have to put them together to make that annoying and brain damaging sound stop? People invented them to make you actually get out of the bed and wake you up. That’s cool, but the problem with lazy people is that there is no force on this planet that will get them out of bed if they don’t want to. They will wake up, but getting out is something different.
This Gun O’Clock is perfect thing for them! It will start the alarm and it won’t shut down until you point that laser gun in the bulls eye of the target. Which is quite handy and thought-out, you will be woken up, but there is no need to get out of bed and collect the alarm pieces together. Just point the gun to the target, the alarm sound will stop and you can peacefully get back to your dreams ;)
In a last few days, I watched all of the Star Wars movies, again. And I’m so obsessed with all the things from the movies. Light sabers, space ships, fighters, droids, and finally, the Force. How cool would it be if something like the Force really exists :)
This toy, called Force Trainer is expected to be released in fall 2009. How does it work?
Well, you get a wireless headset that you put on your head. It will then convert your brain waves into signal that will trigger the air flow inside the plastic tube, which will eventually raise the ball inside.
The fun lies in the fact that you will have to think for something special, it won’t work on any brain activity.
The price of this gadget is expected to be somewhere around $100. It’s pretty high number, but hey – the Force will be within you! And it’s cool!
Thanks to Matija Turk for submitting this gadget! Would you also like to submit one?
Well, this site had a brake for about two weeks. There are a few reasons, and I want to tell my readers which are they and how am I planning to fix that.
Part 1 – The Exams
As you might, or might not know, I am a student on University of Zagreb here in Croatia. I’m on my final year in college now, and if everything goes well, I will have bachelor’s degree somewhere in summer/fall this year.
Because of that I have to know my priorities. College is my first priority, and during past few weeks, I have had some exams that needed to be solved, and here I am now :)
Part 2 – Technical stuff
Also, there were some troubles with the hosting company of this blog, so I decided to change it. While you’re reading this, everything is going smooth on new servers with a new hosting company, but there are still some sites that need to be transferred to their new home.
Well now, since you know why there were no new posts, I can move to the final part of this announcement - authors.
Authors wanted!
As I mentioned – I’m a student with a few exams away from my degree. So, from now on (until the summer) I will not be able to give too much amount of time to my blogging activities, including LOL Gadgets blog. So, with this post I am looking for potential authors for this blog. Things would work something like this:
you contact me by mail (info@lolgadgets.com) or by contact form
I create an account for you
you write posts
I schedule them for publishing
We’re happy :)
Notice that there would be no payment, since everything here is based on a good will, yours and mine. This blog is run by a single person, and there is no big blogging networks behind it (for now ;) )
So – if you would like to work with me on this site, or you know somebody who would like that – please, let me know. I’d really appreciate it.
Well, I must admit that I’m not THAT old when it comes to Space Invaders, so I really can’t say that I grew up on this popular game, (I’m more for Super Mario) but I did play it. And as a kid, I was also amazed with those ice cubes that waiters put it my caramelized, brown, lots-of-sugar drink :)
When I got bigger, we (at my parents home) bought those plastic molds for making our own ice cubes, balls and what not.
But this is something that I would like to buy for myself – molds for making ice in Space Invaders fashion! Totally cool and totally geek and totally want!
I’m not sure that I would take this outside with me (that’s because I mostly don’t go outside), but it would perfectly fit on my desk, like my own bottle of water. Just pop the R2D2’s head and there you go!
This R2D2 “bottle” is not for sale at the moment, but in a few months it will be. Can’t wait!
Talkin’ about trash gadgets, this one takes the first place. There is probably no man on Earth that never heard of Mr. T and his famous “I pitty the fool!” line.
If you’re a big fan of Mr. T, you can now own this keychain, that has 6 programmed lines from Mr. T:
I pity the Fool
Don’t Gimme No Backtalk, Sucka
Quit Yo’ Jibba Jabba
Don’t Make Me Mad
First name Mister, middle name Period, last name T
